Online hints and searching

Hi

This is my first post and I haven’t actually started to use Gramps yet, but I’m hoping to move to it once I know it covers my needs.

I currently use My Family Historian and have done for a very long time. The reason I’ve stuck with that software is because it uses MyHertiage and FindMyPast hints and searches directly within the software which is amazingly convenient and helpful. I have accounts with both MyHeritage and FindMyPast for the integration. It doesn’t just bring through hints, but allows direct searching of individuals through my account details into My Heritage and FMP.

I’ve looked through the Gramps documentation and searched online but I can’t find any references to whether Gramps has a similar feature or integration.

Have I just missed that option or perhaps is it available as an addon, or something in development?

Thank you

Automated hints have not been a feature of Gramps.

I believe that to legally access the APIs of services (like MyHeritage, FindMyPast, Ancestry and FamilySearch), you have to execute an API License Agreement or partnering contract. Since the Gramps-project isn’t incorporated, it cannot execute such agreements. Hints are unlikely to be found in the CORE of Gramps.

But there are a Addons that are talking to some of the services. And the recent Web Search addon gramplet by @Urchello is developing some AI features.

So the short answer is : No, there are no automated hint features.
