All my places have exact location with GPS coordinates (Latitude & Longitude).
When I right-click at a place → Look up with Map Service then OpenStreetMap (OSM) opens but not with my GPS coordinates … instead OSM makes a search for the name.
I don’t understand what is the point to specify an exact location (GPS) when OSM still uses the name of the place.
Select the Place record, right-click, Look Up with Map Service.
If you have added coordinates to the record, the map will display for that location. If there are no coordinates, the map service will use the place name to attempt to locate the place.
There is also an icon on the toolbar to make the internet jump. Next to the icon is a down arrow to select the desired map service.
Hi George
I am a long-time contributor to OSM, co-founder of the weekly multilingual blog on OSM https://weeklyosm.eu. I know OSM as far as you can know it OSM is not my problem.
My problem is Gramps because I am really new and trying to understand the many functions it has.
I wanted to know if there are other ways to access OSM besides the Geography menu item, for example, if you have selected a person to then see the location on the map.
What you want is the Geography view on the left hand side - by default it shows all places for the currently selected person but there are buttons at the top to select all places, all places for the current family and other similar views.
I have gone through all the Places and added GPS coordinates to each record.
If a key person is selected in People, you can go to Geography and on the toolbar select a number of options like show all locations the family lived.
It populates the world map with pins.
The Web generated files also shows the maps. (After you fix the bug)
There is a German saying: “Hunger comes with eating”.
In your case, I allow myself the question: - An automated transfer of the coordinates would be a very fine thing. Could this have a chance if I open an issue on GitHub?
