How do you handle calculating time between important family events?

Hi everyone,

I’m interested in how people working with family-history data handle the time between important events.

For example, when recording a marriage, birth, or other family milestone, what is the easiest way to calculate exactly how much time passed between two recorded dates?

I’m particularly interested in cases where dates may be incomplete or use different formats.

This simple date-based calculator while exploring different ways of presenting elapsed time.

It made me wonder whether anyone uses a similar approach for calculating the duration between events in genealogy records.

Does Gramps have a built-in feature, report, or plugin that can help calculate the time between two selected events?

I’d appreciate any suggestions from people who regularly work with dates and timelines in family-history projects.

There are a spectrum of date related tools.

From a simple Date Calculator

To “Age” calculations built into the People/Family editors

And, of course, if you can describe a missing capability, addons are easier to create today than ever before.
