I ran into issues importing my family free into Gramps Web because some of the notes contained invalid characters (from copying and pasting).
It took awhile to find them in the XML and I tried to update them in the Desktop program, too.
Is that a way to do a check for invalid characters in the Desktop program. I fixed them by putting the gramps file in an XML validator and working through it.
Can you please share what exactly those characters were?
The most common one was
PCDATA invalid Char value 65534 (Unicode value 0xFFFE)
There seems to have been another one, but this was the most common one.
Once an *.Gramps validated in Best XML Validator Online … It would import.
At first I thought it was a permissions issue of some sort, but I did some tests and it imported an GEDCOM file of the same data and a *.Gramps file with just four people in it, I started looking for other issues.
