Gramps reviewed for CSV import of Military Records

On 18 Nov 2024, Devon Noel Lee of Family History Fanatics (YouTube Channel) (Facebook) posted a new “Part 6” (9min 38sec but repeatedly gets stuck “loading” for me) in her YouTube series “PREPARE to SHARE Family Tree on Genealogy Websites”. This part is From Spreadsheet to GEDCOM and covered her experience with 2 tools: Gramps and Excel2GED.

The Gramps portion is from 2:35 to 3:31. The Events that the CSV importer supports was too limited for her needs. (She needed Military and Custom Events.) She had to use Excel2GED to import her data.

Devon also posted a webpage with some basic steps for importing CSV into Gramps and Using Excel2GED to export from that Application to a .ged file

this is why I some time ago suggested to export and import to one csv file for each main gramps object… and utilize ALL data…

As one possibility as an open data format…

And have the importer to import each in the correct sequence… so that it is possible to have relations between the objects… e.g. start with the repositories, then sources, etc. etc.
