Good practices with digital sources

Gramps 5.1.6 - Fedora 39

Archives are now more and more available in digital form.

I add to my citations a Note (type Link) for easy access to the “proof”. Citations are associated with a Source which, in turn, can be attached to a Repository.

The “attachment” record has a type field to describe the physical medium: Audio, Book, Film, Photo, … Since I mainly access the repos through the web, I tag the source as Electronic.

However, I feel this is not ideal. The “electronic” form is implied through the Link Note (and other similar records in Source and Repository descriptors). Wouldn’t it be better to describe the original medium rather than my access method?

What are your practices regarding digitally available sources which come from primary physical “objects”?

I have set these sources as “Digital” on their repository link.

I use the Media Type in the Repository Reference, typically setting it to “Manuscript on film” for microfilmed images, even though I now view digitized images online.
