So, while the Forms addon bug is being addressed, I did have one question about the Forms Addon.
Is there a way to “divorce” the data from the Forms Gramplet? When I was playing with it the first time on a US Census, I only entered the direct line ancestors. Then I went and tweaked some things about the event in their Person Edit screen. A little later, I decided that I needed to add everyone in the census, which I did, but it overwrote the tweaks I had made.
I didn’t expect that, but after some thought, I do understand the logic. However, is there a way to “clear” the Forms Gramplet of an event? Basically say, I no longer want this event to be able to be open in Forms, pretend I just entered all of this by hand in each persons edit screen?
Because I ABSOULTELY see myself overwriting things on accident.
Hopefully it’s not a full uninstall of the addon (although, can you uninstall addons? It’s not in the Addon Manager, and Adv Plugin Manager only has hide?). Any help would be appreciated!
Ok, so now that the addon has been updated (thanks SteveYoungs!) I recall exactly what the specific issue was.
You can’t change the date. And so when the census was taken on 16 Jan 1920, but the Forms Gramplet defaults to 1 Jan 1920, every time I tweak the form, it overwrites my date corrections. Also, same with the “Reference” which is actually a citation. Also, having to move via mouse slows down data entry like crazy. So, I submit the following feature requests:
-
Allow us to choose the date. This feels like it might be a bug. Issue 13834
-
Allow us to choose an existing citation. Feature Request 13835
-
Accessibility and Tab order and standard UI movements. Feature Request 13836
- Use “Enter” to move down the table, i.e., move down to the next cell in the column
Use “Tab” to move across the table, i.e., move right (or left with “Shift+Tab”) to the next cell in the row. Nevermind, after restarting Gramps, this is working in the Forms Addon.
Thoughts?
Census date is not a bug if you look at all UK Census they are on a
single date for reference purposes and very rarely if ever have I come
across one with the actual date it was completed. Everybody knows that
in practice it took a few days to complete the enumeration and sometimes
people appear twice as a result.
US Census are different in that I have seen date ranges on the returns.
So whilst agreeing that being able to change the date might make sense
for most people it would not be necessary.
