The naming of export “output formats” and import “File types” assume a base knowledge and could be improved and harmonized.
Files that users may want to import have file extensions, not the file format descriptors that Gramps uses inside the GUI. We assume that users will recognized .gramps and .gpkg file extensions as being XML, family tree data, and archives of tree data plus media
Including the file extension (and being more consistent in how we label the options) would eliminate the “base knowledge” barrier.
The most common should be our Native Formats and the GEDCOM dialects.
Suggested
- Gramps XML - family tree without media (.gramps)
- Gramps XML Package - family tree including media (.gpkg)
Current
