Fedora 41 and Gramps 6.0

When will Gramps 6.0 be available for Fedora 41?

while awaiting the official, you can download the src.rpm from f42 here
https://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org//packages/gramps/6.0.0/1.fc42/src/gramps-6.0.0-1.fc42.src.rpm
and rebuild it

The Linux Build from Source wiki page was last revised in 2022 and the most recent version it specifically mentions is the 4.2 version. (Although it does link to a Fedora RPM in the ā€œSee alsoā€ section.)

Could someone skilled in building from source re‐validate the article for 6.0? (And perhaps specifically cover how to manually add the ORJSON portions that are evidently not in some Repos.)

How come that Fedora is late with new releases of Gramps?
Windows and Ubuntu are always onboard with the Gramps train …

Well
I don’t think microsoft or ubuntu had release a version of GRAMPS.
There s some volunteer here that has build the package for the community. And none of them use Fedora..
I have rebuilt for my own use the source rpm from rawhide to fedora41. I can provide ir if needed.

I understand that microsoft or ubuntu don’t have releases of GRAMPS.
Strange that nobody uses Fedora in the community … it is a great distribution.
If you can provide Fedora41 version I will appreciate it.

Um, I use gramps desktop exclusively on Fedora – have for years.
I know of several other folks who do, too.

It’s likely that the maintainer just hasn’t gotten around to it.

Since Debian (which Ubuntu derives from) and Fedora are both built
by volunteers who freely give their time and effort, they will get
around to packaging 6.0 whenever they can. Right now, Fedora 42
is almost ready for release, so that’s consuming a lot of cycles
from everyone.

You can always see what’s going on by looking at the package
status page: Overview - rpms/gramps - src.fedoraproject.org. From
that page, it looks like 6.0 will be available once Fedora 42
releases. You’d have to ask the maintainer to see if they’ll
backport that to Fedora 41 later on; there may be issues to
resolve.

As a Fedora packager and Debian Developer emeritus, the best thing
one can to do to speed things up (if possible) is to offer whatever
help you can to the package maintainer.

Here is the version i use built on basis of the future version of fedora 42

Thanks for your input … most valuable for me.
I am just a Gramps user and don’t have deep knowledge in Fedora packages.
Now I have more understanding in the process of Gramps releases in different Linux versions.
I will also look at the link you provided for package status …

I downloaded your version and will install it … thanks
