Dates (non breaking spaces)

There are a lot of dates in genealogical programs.
When retrieving a date from the database, often there are spaces in the resulting string. These cause the line in text reports to break in the wrong places for example 1 December
1930
Is there a standard way to deal with this, or do I need to replace all spaces with “non breaking spaces” after every retrieval from the database?
