There is some sort of strange behavior with columns on some views (i believe I’ve seen this before on the bug list…1302?) they tend to shrink back to a minimal default every now and them after gramps restart.
There is a similar problem in the Multiple Surnames table of the Edit Person dialog.
The Prefix and Connector columns default to a minimum width (of a couple character widths) and forget being resized to a more reasonable size unpredictably. (The Surname column width is a bit overly wide.)
The Multiple Surnames table is a oddball feature. It is hidden by default unless the person already has multiple surnames. The Preferences → General has a “Multiple surname box height” option. And the source code has a comment saying that it is easier to recreate the section than to update it. So maybe these interact to lose the custom width.
When you add a surname row, the width highlighted for the Prefix is wider than the Header row’s width for the Prefix. And it is similar for the Connector column which bleeds into the Origin column.
