The Properties button is not a standard identifier known to Users from other GUIs. (In the libgtk icons, this actions icon is document-properties. In the Adwaita theme, the icon is named document-properties-symbolic.) Nor does the button’s tooltip identify it by that name.
So a ‘tip’ naming Properties Button is not edifying.
And click it for setup is simply wrong. A click detaches/undocks the gramplet. It does not open the View Configuration to the tab for the gramplet.
This is the public discussion of phrasing that preceeds the filing of a concrete change request.
Merely posting a “phrasing is wrong” would just force the volunteer programmer to guess at new phrasing. (My suggestions might be bad guesses too.)
And if the new phrasing still wasn’t newbie-friendly, there’s a high likelihood that the volunteer will disagree and insist that end-users will understand. Then insist on field testing it, grow frustrated when it goes to several rounds of revision suggestions, and finally get to a “screw it, it is good enough and I’m done” stage.
So let’s go through the endless refinements here rather than in coding PRs.
