Support for more Coordinate Systems (GPS) in Gramps

Would it be possible to add support for more coordinate systems as the “intype” format in for the Gramps Coordinates fields …

i.e. EU89

As standard norgeskart.no and the Norwegian Mapping Authority use EU89.

I was not able to find a good reference on ‘EU89’. Is it possible that this is some local way of describing the ETRS89 / UTM coordinate system? The fact that UTM zone is shown suggests that this may be true.

It looks like these systems are intended for survey use, where little things like continental drift become important. I suspect that the accuracy would be somewhat reduced in conversion to lat/long.

Since these systems seem to require a three or four part input, I don’t think we would want to make this a standard part of the Gramps place editor. However we might be able to create an addon Gramplet that included the necessary fields and could then update the currently selected place.

We would definitely need some good reference on the necessary equations. I looked around a bit and found some potential Excel formulae, although some of them had comments about possible errors.

Thanks for answering, I will look around a little, it might be I can find some Norwegian definitions or something …

I will post here what I find …

EU89 = Euref89 = Etrs89, so you are correct …

It seems that you can download the parameters on this webpage …

and at this page its some more …

And here is a few threads from Stackexchange regarding using pyproj to convert:

Hopefully some of this can give some more information…
