Gramps 6.01, Windows 11
After importing a Family Tree Maker (FTM) GED file into GRAMPS, I need to validate and edit over 3,100 citations. The two systems did align. However, the alignment was in such a manner that the Citation description was often left blank.
Attach is a document showing the data is correct and how FTM produced the report. Hoping that there is a reasonable procedure to create such as report.
Thank you, Rick
Yes, there is a Sources and Citations report (under Reports → Text Reports) which includes attached Notes like you show in your example, and also a feature request with code for an improved version.
Thank you for the information regarding the proposed feature. It seems to be a solution for myself. Is there any way to be a beta tester for the revision?
@GBaynes can you please reply to @Rick.Allen regarding your feature request?
I think is a better candidate for either:
- converting/copying the sources to citations and the Repositories to Sources (with SuperTool)
- tweaking the GEDCOM to make them more standardized as Sources. Then importing again
Of course, the ideal option would be to adapt a GEDCOM importer to be a parse Family Tree Maker’s non-standard dialect of GEDCOM.
emyoulation, Thank you for the suggestions. I was not aware of Supertool. That functionality will be sufficient for my cleanup.
The mapping of FTM GED to Gramps worked fine. The problem was at my end using Cut/Paste of Census reports into Citation Notes rather than splitting across 2 dialogue boxes.
Having the enhanced Source/Citation report will be helpful in data validation or identifying areas of missing documentation.
