I just have a question here, maybe it’s an idea: Is there an option for a customised landing page? When I use the demo I can see what’s coming up, but in terms of visual appeal that’s very “dry”. SO my question is whether this page can be customised or designed, or if there is a page that can be set in front of it that allows for a “Welcome” or “Introduction”-kind of page? Thanks !!!

Which version of Gramps are you using? And I am going to go out on a limb and ask if you are using GrampsWeb?
If you were on the desktop, the default “landing” page would be the Dashboard unless you used a combination of Preferences settings and an addon to remember which view you last used and which record you last worked on.
I am working on a new “Welcome to Gramps!” Gramplet.
Where, if not tree is loaded or a specific Note Type does not exist, it shows a pre-formulated generic welcome.
But if the Tree has a Note with such a Note Type, then that content will be shown instead. And it supports the ability to hotlink items in the Tree. (The sample content is that same Gramplet showing instruction for using a gramplet. The Titlebar is relabeled based on the Initial Header line of the content. I have not yet written a Note for the example.gramps tree) :

This might be a solution. I am currently thinking about signing up. The landing page is important to me. Imagine it as a page dedicated in memoriam to a close relative. So in my mind’s eye it would be a very personal page, with a photo of him, and the Gramps functionalities embedded. But it wouldn’t look in any way the way the demo landing page looks, much more personal.

Just to make sure we are on the same page, are you talking about Gramps desktop? If so, what demo are you referring?
If you are using the Gramps Web demo site, then that is a different issue.
Can you provide a screenshot of what you are seeing, or describe in words what you see?
Are you thinking about Gramps for Desktops? Or Gramps Web? Or publishing a static (but updatable) website generated with the Narrated Website?
Historically, the original Gramps (for desktops) was intended for use by a single person. So such notes were typically “ToDo” reminders for Genealogists who might research infrequently or have a multitude of of Trees for different subjects/clients. To be brutally frank, since the To Do notes were scratchpads for ‘internal’ reference by the researcher, we had not put much effort into gussying it up. (The new gramplet takes a swing at that.) Not many people “distribute” a full Gramps tree to uninitiated family members … or let them take a seat with Gramps on their own systems. Two reasons:
- Gramps has a fairly steep learning curve. New users don’t just sit down and start effectively using it.
- Gramps assumes the user wants to update and change the data. So it puts no guardrails up for doing that. Consequently, new users are as dangerous as your cat walking on your computer keyboard. They can do an incredible amount of damage in an unbelievably short period.
The Narrated Website report has had a customizable Home page for many years.
The Gramps Web for servers (a collaborative and dynamic website system built on top of a Gramps database backend) is a relatively new. It has a Home person card surrounded by a dashboard for navigation.
