**JSON export from Gramps 6.0 to Gramps 5.1 / 5.2 β testers welcome**
I test my own Gramps plugins in versions 5.1, 5.2 and 6.0. For that work I wanted to reuse the same small family test tree with 187 people in all three versions.
Therefore I have developed an export addon for Gramps 6.0.x that creates JSON files for import into Gramps 5.1 or 5.2.
The addon appears in the normal export assistant. Select the target version and export the open family tree. The intermediate JSONL file is created automatically, so no separate JSON Export addon is needed in Gramps 6. The receiving installation needs the appropriate JSON Import addon.
**It does not guarantee an exact 1:1 or lossless copy of every possible Gramps database.**
The conversion has been tested with a family tree containing 2,208 people, using Danish and English installations of Gramps 5.1 and 5.2. No discrepancies were observed in those tests. Custom and rarely used data types may still reveal issues.
Please note:
- The entire family tree is exported, without person filters.
- For Gramps 5.1, From/To dates are approximated as After/Before. Gramps 5.2 preserves these date modifiers.
- Media references are included, but media files are not copied.
- An English conversion report is saved alongside the exported file.
**Download, installation instructions and details of the handled and unhandled types:**

Please import into a separate test family tree first.
Bugs and missing functionality are welcome in this forum thread. When reporting an issue, please include your Gramps versions, interface language, any error message, and what you expected compared with what happened.
