GrampsHome Variable Is Set And Verified But Trying To Open the Existing DB Pointed To Does Not Work

Windows 10 Gramps AIO64-6.0.0–1 user that I have set the Homebase GRAMPSHOME variable and have set preferences to point to the database but I don’t get an option to open the pointed to DB. I am missing something but am at a loss as to what.

You mean the GRAMPSHOME environmental variable, right?

My apologies yes Grampshome

You set the variable GRAMPSHOME in Windows before you install Gramps. When Gramps installs and runs for the first time, it will create the user folders in the location defined by GRAMPSHOME instead of the default location.

As an example, I set my GRAMPSHOME to c:\users\public\Genealogy so that all users on a shared computer had access to all of the same Gramps files.

In Windows, the default location for the Gramps user files is C:\Users\<~username>\AppData\Local\gramps unless you have had Gramps 5.1 or earlier installed then C:\Users\*%username%*\AppData\Roaming\gramps is still used. Setting GRAMPSHOME before installation will set a custom location where the \gramps folder is created.

The default database folder is \gramps\grampsdb and is set in Preferences on the Family Tree tab as the default. You can set any folder as the database directory in Preferences and the information is saved in gramps.ini.

Managing Family Trees Gramps (menu >> Family Trees >> Managing Family Trees) will open the folder set in Preferences.
