After Snap install, help request on Facebook group

Continuing the discussion from Announcements:
Gramps is now available as a Snap:

On Gramps for Genealogists, Dianne Reuby posts:
After 20 years using Gramps on Ubuntu, I still find upgrades challenging! I can do a full backup with no problems, and the App Center had version 6 available. It seemed to install OK, but after install the “open” option is greyed out - I can only uninstall.

Should I have uninstalled version 5 before installing 6?

In the App Center, once installed there’s a drop-down with various choices according to the app. On Gramps you can have open (greyed out) or uninstall. This is from the snap version, I think.

I can reproduce this on Ubuntu 24.10 virtual machine. I’ll investigate.

The problem was due to lack of permissions to access DBus. I had to create a slot as recommended in the Snapcraft documentation, but unfortunately my latest upload now requires a manual human review.

I’ll keep you updated and chase the progress tomorrow if necessary.

I’m not sure why my original Snap works on Arch Linux, but not Ubuntu.

I decided to remove the release to avoid other Ubuntu users installing it.

Unfortunately the fixed version is still awaiting review.

Any update?

The user seems to be patiently waiting. But it’d be better if we can answer on Facebook without additional prompting.

Or, how would I check for myself?

Nevermind. Found it was published yesterday.

Thanks for checking. I can upgrade it to the stable channel when we are happy that I don’t have to open up any more interfaces.
