I’m not expecting you to answer my question. Maybe …
I began using gramps destop for my genealogie but I stopped as I wanted to make my own tool. Something very different, web based, a simple nodejs server with vis.js at the front (HomeTree I called it, an only personal tool. It is canvas base so you can add images like old photos or postcards). No database, just json. Where could I find resources or forums to help me ?
I love my tool, it is exactly as I want it to be : a lightweight software with free placement and some functions to rearrange the tree. There are collaterals and family all together in the same view. But as the the tree is growing, it is a real nightmare to order. So i need to make it differently.
Mayve I should give gramps web a try but I think I should go on anyway either to prove me its too hard or to succeed.
Any group you know any resources ?
And sorry to bother you with the shamely off-topic post ! 😅

Your post is not particularly off-topic since the developers of both Gramps Web and Gramps Connect may be able to give you some advice.

Is your personal tool just a “graphical” one, i.e. your primary goal is to **display** the relationship between persons (optionally decorated with images)? I assume you have no need of separate event records, just needing birth, death and marriage dates.

If so, your problem is not genealogy but graph representation, mainly placement of nodes to optimise edge routing (minimising lines crossing). You should look at the algorithms used in _GraphViz_, a general utility. Gramps itself subcontracts its graphical reports, like family lines, to _GraphViz_.

Vis.js even if it is totally distinct from GraphViz serves probably the same purpose as vis.js. Maybe I haven’t tryed enought to use the hierachical motor. I note that GraphViz could help me thanks

I wonder if an automatic node placement tool cool be useful instead of a (very complicated) home made placement algorythm

EDIT : Well I have checked and it should be the solution ! Thank you
