A new PR improving the **ProbabyAlive** utility was just committed to the master branch.

You @kmikkels and @ztlxltl might want to review the changes in the [PR 1790](https://github.com/gramps-project/gramps/pull/1790) and [MantisBT 13443](https://gramps-project.org/bugs/view.php?id=13443) issue to determine if anything changes for your addons.

I have to find the right place to amend 13443 to indicate that it adds **Probate** Events to the Death fallbacks.

Thanks @emyoulation
As far as I can tell this change only improved the gramplet, because it improves the probably alive function.

@emyoulation
Thanks for pointing this out. Currently I only use it for determining the color of the boxes/avatar and the ribbon. I haven’t implemented the suggested use for the timeline.
I hope the new function is not significantly slower, as calling `probably_alive()` is definitely expensive when building the visualization with a few hundred people.

I’m not familiar with the process of how addons should adapt to updates, so maybe my question is a bit naive:
Is there some docs on the API changes for each (non-maintenance) update or what is the best practice when preparing the addon for the next update?

This something that has had lively discussion lately. The developer who used to wrangle addon updates stepped back due to the birth of a new grandchild. Addon update approvals stalled completely.

We made [a call for volunteers on the Developer Mailing List](https://sourceforge.net/p/gramps/mailman/gramps-devel/thread/1911608295.600522.1717280605960%40mail.yahoo.com/#msg58778724) in June 2024 and had 2 but no one to bring them up to speed. Then, when nothing was moving, another developer volunteered and was a self-starter.

Things are moving again but the workflow is not locked down. The recent HistContext gramplet by @kmikkels is the first attempt through the re-lined pipeline. He has willingly served as guinea pig and documenter of adding language support and publishing through the ‘official’ project.

The Isotammi Group, GlopGlop and JMichault run their own [Other Projects](https://gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php/Gramps_5.2_Wiki_Manual_-_Navigation#Other_Projects) but don’t give much feedback when there are problems. They try their own workarounds and move on when something works

Continuation of [My first gramplet - “Historical Context” for gramps 5.2](https://gramps.discourse.group/t/my-first-gramplet-historical-context-for-gramps-5-2/6348) topic.

Would it be possible to add the reading of an attribute of the person dedicated to the gramplet in which would be indicated the files that we want to read for this person in addition to those selected in the gramplet settings?

This would allow for example to associate with certain people purely local events that only concern some people and not all persons in the database.

We could have an attribute of this kind:

- Type: Historical Context
- Value: belgium, ww1

When finding this attribute and these values the gramplet would read the information, in addition to the checked files, those of the files `belgium_v1_0.txt` and `ww1_v1_0.txt`.

Hello @kmikkels,
I think your gramplet has big perspectives with AI integration.

 ![2025-04-25_17-39-41](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/free1/uploads/gramps/original/2X/2/2c1b87f891e081f6549df02679570327d58216f8.jpeg)
Gramplet can send to AI dates ranges, region or country and current list of events according to the same date range. And then it will receive suggests which are missing in the list which could be added manually to the text files.

I can give you my ai python-classes for this if you want. I already have something very similar [A new WebSearch gramplet is ready - #276 by Urchello](https://gramps.discourse.group/t/a-new-websearch-gramplet-is-ready/7188/276)

Sounds very interesting.
Currently I am strugling with getting python to work the way I want.
Trying to use glade as a popup to my gramplet, but I do not find it easy.
I will take a look at the AI later.
