# More Mandatory fields for the Discourse signup

Blank forms make it too difficult to detect 'bot account applications. Each addition _ **required** _ field increases the chances of screening out SPAMmer users.

Could a couple more fields be set to _Required_ ? The Operating System would obviously be helpful for diagnostic leads. As is the Gramps version… but that is likely to be quickly outdated.

# setting Required fields

1. Create a user field in **Admin \> Community \> User Fields** and set it to **Required at signup**.[meta.discourse](https://meta.discourse.org/t/creating-and-configuring-custom-user-fields/113192?tl=en)
2. If you need the field to be mandatory for everyone, not just new accounts, Discourse also supports a **For all users** requirement

Done. Operating System and Gramps versions have been set to **Required at signup** for new users only.
