# Made a tool that turns a GEDCOM export into a printed book and a family website

Hi all,

I’ve been working on a family history for a while, and at the end I wanted two things: a proper book to print, and a website the relatives could look around. I didn’t find anything that did both well, so I wrote one. It’s called Flyleaf, and it’s free and open source.

You export GEDCOM from Gramps, and it builds a PDF and a website. The book has a chapter for each family line, an ancestor register with footnoted sources, charts and an index. The site has the same book plus a tree, photos and a map. You write the stories yourself, and it checks that their citations match sources in the tree.

I’ve tested it with exports from Gramps and PAF, but I’m sure some Gramps exports will trip it up. If you try it and something comes out wrong, I’d like to know.
