Hello.

Often in church records the midwife (obstetrix or shortened to Obst. Obstr.) is listed, example below. In my family back in Poland we had a family member that delivered many babies. I’m not sure how to go about adding this under someone’s birth record?

Welcome!

There are options.

In a Birth record, you can add an Attribute “Midwife” with the value the person’s name. This does not get reflected in the midwife’s record.

The second option is to copy the Birth record to the clipboard then add the event to the midwife’s record and set the Role to “Midwife”. You can add the custom Role type by typing it in. This custom type will not translate so do you enter Midwife in English or Polish??

You can do the same when a family member is the Officiant for another family member’s wedding, etc.

I see a third option: is it possible to establish an association between the baby and the midwife? In GEDCOM this is a ASSO relation between two individuals.

There is the [SyncAssociation](https://gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php/Addon:SyncAssociation) that adds the corresponding association to the other record.

The association in the baby’s record would be “Midwife”. In the midwife’s record the association would be “Delivered Baby” ??
