I built a customisable static site generator for Gramps family trees. Gramps lets you own and manage your family tree using OSS, and this approach lets you self-host a web version to share with family - no subscriptions required! It’s easily configurable, and highly customisable. If you want to, you can append your own CSS, replace the default CSS, or even create your own templates. The project is called greatgramps. Could you explain in a few words the differences and similarities with _NarrativeWeb_? It already allows you to build a self-hosted site and, if you open your computer on the web, the site can be shared with your relatives. I extended _NarrativeWeb_ with many clickable family lines graphs so that you have a graphical overview of the data (instead of only stern lists of names). Did you see the demo site? [Alex Hartwell — Hartwell Family Tree](https://gramps.bennuttall.com/I0000/people/I0000/) I’d say it’s neatly laid out and easy to navigate - the fixed width helps on bigger screens. It includes more top-level pages, includes maps showing locations of the events in scope (with OSM so no API configuration required), and includes rapidly sortable/filterable tables for events and places. I also built in more specialised views for things like censuses and cemeteries. It can also be generated from the perspective of multiple people, where relations are described relative to the root person, and e.g. ancestor filters work for them. bennuttall, I did look at the demo site. I am unclear regarding all the problems or new features your solution provides. Your blog did not offer any significant reasons for investing in transitioning to your solution. A comparison chart would be beneficial. Can you generate the HTML from a Windows installation?
