Gramps version: 6.0.8 ARM
OS: macOS Tahoe (Darwin), Apple Silicon MacBook Air
I have installed Gramps and when I create a new family tree, it immediately shows as locked and cannot be opened.
Investigation via Terminal shows the database folder is created (eg 69fd5a72) but is completely empty - no database files are written at all.
Steps already tried:
- Fixed permissions with chmod -R 755
- Deleted empty database folders
- Reinstalled Gramps twice from fresh DMG download
- Granted Full Disc Access in Privacy and Security settings
The tree is unlocked when created but locked when opened. No lock file is present to break.
Not sure how to reproduce your issue.
If I click Family Trees –> Manage Family Trees
and press New button. I enter the name and hit enter. The tree is unlocked and the Last Accessed is None.
If I then click Load Family Tree, I get a blank tree (no people).
At this point, if I open the Manage Family Trees again, it shows a folder (not a lock). I can add people as desired.
Can you describe how to reproduce your issue.
When I start a new tree it is not locked.
When I click load family tree I get a blank tree.
When I click manage family tree and choose the new tree I get a message that the tree is locked .
Right. The blank tree is loaded. A lock is set at that point to prevent another instance of Gramps loading the same tree. This is normal.
What you need to do now is to either:
- add some people and families manually; or,
- import data (that has been exported from another program)
Rather than me describing all the clicks and logic, you could watch one of the Gramps tutorial videos
