# Global Search & Replace

Is it possible to perform a global; search & replace on specific fields?

e.g. I want to remove any punctuation from the “Given Name”, “Family Name” and “Suffix” fields

e.g. I want to replace all instances of “Von” with “von” in the “Family Name” field

Not within Gramps. If you are familiar with “regular expressions” you might be able to do this within a programmers editor that supports those, editing the Gramps XML exported file. It would take some work…

Already part of Gramps use the " **Extract Information from Names"** tool
