I think you will have islands in every large tree. I have a line I created going back to 1075, then found one of the family connections was unlikely and unsupported. The severance of that connection left a whole line as an island, but I’m not going to delete them. One day I may find a new connection…

I have disconnected islands of people for very valid reasons. There are people associated in ways other than blood or marriage: Godparents and clergy; co-workers, friends, and neighbors; authors and researchers of reference materials; eponyms, brothers in arms, and leaders.

Thanks for your input … now I have a deeper understanding of ‘lonely stars’. I will keep them in the database and hopefully one day they will find a star to connect.

Isolated groups of people (as well as events and places) are also easy to see if you export to GEDCOM and import into yEd, as described in this post.
