I tried updating a MantisBT issue report but had security token cause the commit to fail.

The following bug got significantly worse in 6.1 beta1 after upgrading from 6.0.8. The Tip of the Day dialog now is drawn completely off-screen on my 2-screen laptop. Examining the `gramps.ini` showed a large negative value in the dialog’s `horiz-position` in the `[interface]` chunk. Deleting the dialog’s lines (with Gramps closed), saving, and restarting the app caused new BAD values to be written. (Still off-screen at about `-1046`)

Resetting to a positive number with a text editor caused it to show on-screen again. Close the dialog and invoked the `Help -> Tip of the Day` menu brought the dialog up again shifted about 1.5 inches to the left of the previous position. Repeats of the close/open dialog consistently walked to the dialog about 1.5" to the left each time.

[0013794](https://gramps-project.org/bugs/view.php?id=13794): [Tip of the Day] Dialog initial position is miscalculated. Half off-screen to left

I recall a Discourse posting about Object Editor dialogs walking to the left too … but in smaller increments.

And in 5.2, no matter what I reset on my 2-screen laptop, the Place object selector always draws with 1" on the left screen and the rest on the right. It is very annoying.

This problem persists in 6.1 beta2 on Windows 10.
(Now less of the dialog is off-screen.)

Since the **Tip of the Day** dialog opens in every new install, every new user is treated to a GUI error in their first minute of use.

**Note:** With 5.2 on my test box, the Places selection dialog always opens straddling (by about 10 characters) my dual screen. (Annoying since the screens are offset from one another due to space constraints.) And that window does not remember being re-positioned on the main screen. I do not have 2 screens on my testbox for 6.1beta2.
Could someone test whether the 6.1 Place selection dialog centers on mouse-indicated screen by default and/or if it remembers being re-positioned/re-sized?
